About The ArtistDeborah Zavon lives and works in New York City. She earned a BA at New York University College of Arts and Sciences. She studied at The New School of Social Research, The School of Visual Arts, The New York Academy of Art, The National Academy and the Art Students League where she is a life member. She has studied with several artists including Steven Kidd, Sherry Camhy, James McElhinney, Oldrich Teply, Joseph Peller, Frederick Brosen, Dan Thomson, Michael Pellettieri, and Jason Yarmosky, Sam Goodsell, Leonid Gervits. She has taught art in Maryland and Maine. Deborah is an associate member of AAPL. She attended Great Neck North High School where she was a member of the Art Club, published in the yearbook, and won art awards. She also attended Maryland College of Art and Design and conducted her own a design business.
I am in cahoots with my pencil. I am fascinated by the ability to simulate different textures and surfaces with only a simple pencil. That I can cause the eye to see hard, soft, rough, smooth, glass, water, leather, wool, wood, flesh, hair amazes me. To be able to create emotion, change a frown to a smile just by moving my pencil constantly surprises me. I need to see what more we can accomplish.
